The 501 House operates based on a best practices model in accordance with the National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). At The 501 House, we believe in the use of active recovery behavior as well as participation in a 12-Step program.
Our house uses a social model that “… supports recovery as a person-driven, life-long, and holistic process” and “…emphasizes interpersonal aspects of recovery.”
The 501 House is a Level II tier recovery home that employs a house manager and refers to a policy and procedure for its residents. In addition, the Level II tier uses house rules to provide structure, employs the use of regular alcohol and drug screening, encourages peer-run groups and conflict resolution, and maintains involvement in residents’ self-help management and/or treatment. While The 501 House serves as a “next step” after treatment or transition from another home, we believe in promoting a lifestyle and environment that best helps residents achieve and sustain their recovery.
SAMHSA’s definition of recovery:
“A process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential.”
-Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
NARR’s definition of recovery residences:
“Recovery residences are sober, safe, and healthy living environments where residents are most likely to achieve recovery from alcohol, drugs, and other associated problems. We believe that recovery residences should foster the development of a sense of community where individuals improve their physical, mental, spiritual, and social well-being. The goal of recovery residences should be to assist people they serve to make transitions to independent, productive and meaningful lives of their own choosing.”
-National Alliance of Recovery Residences (NARR)
